On January 31st, 20 members of the Ingersoll Speed Sharks participated in the WOSA Sting Meet in Wilmot. The swimmers came ready to compete in the pool and the results were fantastic! Coaches efforts to focus on technique and skill development since the beginning of the season are paying off as swimmers looked very strong against the competition. As a team, the Speed Sharks achieved a personal best performance rate of approximately 70%. In addition, there were many swimmers who achieved Regional Championship qualifying times in their races. Our newest Regional qualifier was Rachael Groves who hit the mark in all three of her races en route to three 1st place finishes. Jacob Corrigan made Regionals in all three of his races as well and finished with two 1st place finishes and one 2nd place finish. Alexis Chisholm made Regionals in two more events and finished in 1st place in all three of her races. Madison Lunick added one more Regional event to her total en route to two 1st place finishes and one 2nd place finish. In addition, Paige Elliott hit the mark in one of her three races and finished with one 1st place and two 2nd place awards. Other swimmers with top three finishes were Allison Labreche (3 – 1st place), Olivia Pike (1 -1st, 1-2nd), Cole Hammond (1-1st, 2 -3rd), Luke Patterson (1-2nd, 1-3rd), Travis Cudney (1-2nd, 1-3rd), Liam McCreery (1-2nd place), Liam Smith (1-2nd, 1-3rd), Emily Harris (1-3rd) & Lauren Henderson (1-3rd).
As a result of the excellent performances this season, we have 10 athletes who have qualified for the Regional Championships. This is a tremendous improvement from the total number (4) of qualifiers we had last year. Along with the previously mentioned swimmers, the remaining qualifiers are: Emma Beggs, Danielle Drescher, Samantha Drescher, Paige Elliot, Karl Grambow and Malcolm Kersel. The coaches are very optimistic that we will continue to add to the total as the year progresses. The short course Regional Championships will take place in Brantford (Brantford Aquatic Center) on Feb. 26-28. The Speed Sharks will be ready to make their presence known at the meet!
