The search has ended for two male canoeists a concerned citizen reported as being in distress on Thames River in Ingersoll Sunday afternoon.

OPP said Monday morning that while the search has ended, nothing has changed in the investigation and they still do not know the fate the canoeists.

Ingersoll OPP officers spent Sunday afternoon and evening scouring the area west of Ingersoll St. North for two paddlers. That followed a report by a person walking along the Thames River of two male canoeists standing in the water yelling for help.

Neither man was wearing life jackets or dressed for the weather conditions. The canoeists then got back in their canoe and left the area, police say.

Meanwhile witness continued to walk along the bank and when he lost sight of the paddlers he contacted the police.

Police are asking anyone who witnessed the men in the canoe to call 1-888-310-1122.
